Door, gate & grille painting in Singapore

Landed sliding or swing gate $250 – $600+
Window grilles (per set) $40 – $120
Staircase or balcony railings Quoted per metre

How metal gates and grilles should be painted

  1. Remove loose rust and flaking paint with wire brushes or sanding
  2. Treat remaining rust with a rust converter where needed
  3. Apply an anti-rust primer, such as red oxide or zinc-rich primer
  4. Finish with two coats of enamel or metal paint

Painting straight over rust is the most common shortcut. It looks fine for a few weeks, then bubbles and flakes.

Timber doors

Solid timber doors can be painted with enamel or stained and varnished to show the wood grain. Laminated doors need a bonding primer first. If your door is swollen at the bottom from mopping water, ask about sealing the bottom edge too.

HDB gate rules

You’re responsible for your own main door and gate, and can repaint them. Corridor walls and common areas belong to the Town Council and shouldn’t be painted. See HDB painting rules for more.

FAQ

Can I paint my HDB gate a different colour?

Generally yes, as the gate is part of your unit. Avoid blocking the corridor while the paint dries and keep the work within renovation hours.

How long does gate paint take to dry?

Enamel paint is usually touch-dry in a few hours but takes a day or more to harden fully. Keep the gate open and avoid scratching it during that time.

Why does my gate keep rusting after painting?

Usually because rust wasn’t removed and no anti-rust primer was used. Proper preparation fixes this.
