Bathroom ceiling $80 – $180 Anti-fungal ceiling paint

Most painters have a minimum charge of around $150 to $300, so grouping small jobs together saves money. For whole-home prices, see HDB painting, condo painting or our full price guide.

Finishes, explained simply

  • Matt: hides wall imperfections well and looks soft. Harder to wipe clean. Good for bedrooms and ceilings.
  • Low sheen or eggshell: slightly shiny, easier to clean. The usual choice for living rooms and corridors.
  • Semi-gloss: very wipeable, shows bumps and patches more. Used on doors, trims and some kitchens.

How a proper interior paint job is done

  1. Furniture moved to the centre and covered, floors protected
  2. Switches, sockets and frames masked
  3. Cracks, holes and dents filled, then sanded smooth
  4. Stains and patches spot-primed so they don’t show through
  5. Ceilings painted first, then walls, cutting in neatly at edges
  6. Two full coats with proper drying time between them
  7. Touch-ups, masking removed, room cleaned and furniture returned

Painting with kids, pets or elderly at home

Ask for low-VOC paint. Products certified under the Singapore Green Labelling Scheme are a good place to start. Keep the room ventilated during and after painting, and if possible sleep in another room for the first night.

Interior painting FAQ

How much does it cost to paint one room in Singapore?

A typical bedroom costs $150 to $350 for walls and ceiling with standard paint. Small jobs may have a minimum charge.

How long does paint smell last?

With low-odour paint and good ventilation, most smell fades within a day. Standard paints can linger for 2 to 3 days.

Should I paint the ceiling too?

If the ceiling is yellowed or stained, yes. Painting walls but not the ceiling often makes the ceiling look dirty next to the fresh walls.

How many coats of paint do I need?

Two coats is the standard for a good finish. Big colour changes or patchy walls may need a primer plus two coats, or a third coat.
